With more than 1,800 procedures performed since 1984, the heart transplant program at the Medical University of Vienna at Vienna General Hospital (AKH Wien) ranks among the largest and most successful centers in Europe. Through the close integration of cutting-edge clinical medicine and innovative research, we set international standards in the further development of artificial heart systems, organ preservation, and personalized follow-up care. The HTX Research Laboratory focuses in particular on questions related to the immunology of transplant rejection, as well as the potential of innovative methods of organ preservation and mechanical perfusion.
