The indication for biological aortic valve replacement is widely accepted for patients over 60 years of age worldwide. For younger patients, mechanical valve replacement is recommended despite the associated challenges and risks. Therefore, the Ross-Procedure (Ross, 1967) represents an excellent alternative for young patients with irreparable aortic valve disease. In the Ross-Procedure, the aortic valve is replaced with an autograft of the pulmonary valve, and, consecutively, the pulmonary valve is replaced with a homograft. Due to excellent long-term results, this technique is gaining increasing popularity.

As part of the “Masters in Cardiovascular Surgery” series, the course “The Ross-Procedure” offers cardiac surgeons a comprehensive workshop on this excellent but complex surgical technique. The theoretical part discusses indications, techniques, and pitfalls. The practical part includes three intensive wet-lab sessions on human cadaver hearts. All tutors are experienced cardiac surgeons who provide participants with individual feedback and numerous tips.
